WHY MOUTH TAPE?

Skeptical about mouth taping? It might seem bizarre, but our body was built to breathe through our noses. Research suggests that most people breathe through their mouths while sleeping. Mouth breathing has also been shown to increase the risk of developing sleep apnea and other medical conditions. By applying a flexible and breathable piece of tape, you can prevent mouth breathing and potentially decrease the complications associated with it.

FAQS

By sealing your lips, you are forced to breathe out of your nose and it promotes better more peaceful sleep for you and your partner.

No. Our bodies have instincts that allow us to wake up if breathing becomes uncomfortable due to congestion. It’s a lot smarter than we give it credit for! However, mouth breathing causes the blood vessels in the nose to trigger mucus and swelling, so much less likely to happen if it’s closed. The tape is also porous, so air can pass through if need be. If you’re hesitant, practice with the tape + nose strips during the day to get used to nasal breathing. Then, wear it all night when you can (nasally) breathe comfortably!

Maybe ask your wife instead of us. The bottom line is snoring and irritability from lack of sleep are major contributors to arguments. We can help with some of that.

Absolutely, yes. It’s not for everyone, but what many people don't know is that practicing nasal breathing can help your nose function better. Over time consistent nasal breathing can dilate your airways and reduce congestion in general. Many folks with allergies have seen a difference with the tape. The addition of Captiv Nose strips can be extremely beneficial to widen the airway and help you nasal breathe when it normally feels uncomfortable. Most practice during the day first, then wear all night when they can nose breathe comfortably.

Yes. You can use Captiv Tape if you have a deviated septum. It may not be for everyone, and for some the tape may not be the solution. What you can do for sinus issues is practice nose breathing. It can dilate airways and reduce congestion over time. The addition of Captiv Nose strips can be extremely beneficial to widen the airway and help you nasal breathe. We have users that have seen a difference in their deviated septum. Some use the tape + nose strips during the day until they feel comfortable using it all night.

We always recommend everyone evaluate their own needs, and seek the treatment best for them. It’s not for everyone, but Captiv Tape has been a great resource for so many with mild OSA.  To maintain an open airway the tongue, ideally, needs to be at the roof of the mouth. When you mouth-breathe, the tongue is likely to be on the floor of the mouth and more likely to fall into the back of the throat. The tape helps keep the tongue in the correct position if that’s the case for you. If you require a CPAP - we recommend using Captiv Tape alongside a nasal mask.

Yes. In fact - breathing through the nose helps to slow down, humidify, condition, and filter air before it gets to your lungs. If you struggle with asthma, taking deeper, more, “cleansed” breaths can benefit the body immensely.

Yep. Captiv Tape is CPAP-compatible, and many use it alongside a nasal mask. No more mouth breathing, and better sleep. It is often used to fixed the "air leak" associated with CPAP machines.

Are you crazy?! You obviously haven’t tried it! In all seriousness, Captiv Tape is the best mouth tape on the planet. Why? Because it’s a completely unique fabric, shape, adhesive, and experience. We’re stronger than other tapes, yet so comfortable most forget they’re wearing it. We’re made with medical grade, hypo-allergenic material and acrylic adhesive without latex. We’re porous, safe on skin, and strong enough for facial hair and strong jaws!
